The International Bar Association, founded in 1947, is the leading organization of legal practitioners and bar associations from around the world. The IBA offers a multifaceted forum for discussion and exchange of information about law-related topics at the international level.
The mission of the IBA is the promotion and exchange of information about laws between various associations of practitioners around the world. By enabling its members to exchange information, IBA influences the law and its development in numerous jurisdictions worldwide.
The goals of the organization also include supporting the professional independence of lawyers and their right to provide legal assistance without external interference. IBA also supports human rights protections through its Human Rights Institute.
The IBA Annual Conference was held on 4–9 October 2015 in Vienna. The guests at this year’s conference included José Manuel Barroso, José Maria Aznar, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Kofi Annan and Fatou Bensouda. Some 200 different sessions, lectures on various fields of law, and IBA committee meetings were held during the conference.
