English Contract Law (Primary)
20-24 March 2017
The course will explain the fundamental principles of English contract law, with a particular focus on commercial contracts. Commercial parties often choose English law to govern their agreements, partly because of the importance placed upon certainty, predictability, and the respect given to the fundamental notion of freedom of contract. These key concepts will be addressed through looking at some of the core areas of contract law and by dealing with topics of current practice.
Contents of the course
Subjects to be covered include:
- Contract formation (including offer and acceptance; the requirement of consideration; the requirement of contractual intent)
- Contents of a contract (including the incorporation of terms; interpretation; implication; rectification; unfair terms)
- Discharge of a contract (including termination for breach; agreed termination clauses; frustration)
- Remedies (including agreed remedies; damages; specific remedies)
- Vitiating factors (including misrepresentation; duress; undue influence; unconscionable bargains)
The course consists of 20 hours of lectures.

The members of the OIRP w Warszawie have a privilege of priority enrolment for the course.
Participants arrange accommodation on their own. We will be happy to find a room-mate for you if you want to stay in a twin room.
While choosing your accommodation please have in mind that there is a very good public transport system in Oxford and neighbourhood. Moreover the course is organized during term break and th campus accommodation may be also available.
